Seniors
Once a month the seniors (65+) gather at church for a time of worship and fellowship. They sing, have prayer time, answer Bible quiz questions, and listen to a short devotional intended specifically for them. As they enjoy a snack, the conversation flows!
A number of our seniors reside in care facilities, especially in Millwoods Shepherd’s Care. To connect with those who are no longer able to attend church services, once a month a group of singers joins someone from the pastoral staff in serving the seniors with hymns, musical presentations, and a devotional. Many of our seniors who are still able to attend church also attend this service and connect with the friends they no longer see in regular Sunday worship services. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect not only with seniors we know but to build new friendships with other seniors living at Shepherd’s Care.
Our pastoral staff cares for the elderly who feel isolated or alone or need encouragement with in-home visitation, hospital visitation, and telephone calls.
The ministry team also recognizes the value of intergenerational relationships. The youth and the seniors have a desire to feel needed, respected, and loved! The young people of the church are involved in holiday outreach activities for seniors. Once a year, they put on a special afternoon/evening for the seniors. They sing and pray together, fellowship, and of course, enjoy the food the young people provide. The bond that forms between young and old is precious.
